- January 28, 1813 – Pride and Prejudice is first published in the United Kingdom.
- April 27, 1813 – War of 1812: United States troops capture the capital of Upper Canada in the Battle of York (present day Toronto, Canada).
- May 23, 1813 – South American independence leader Simón Bolívar enters Mérida, leading the invasion of Venezuela, and is proclaimed El Libertador (“The Liberator”).
- May 27, 1813 – War of 1812: In Canada, American forces capture Fort George.
- May 31, 1813 – In Australia, Lawson, Blaxland and Wentworth, reached Mount Blaxland, effectively marking the end of a route across the Blue Mountains.
- June 1, 1813 – James Lawrence, the mortally-wounded commander of the USS Chesapeake, gives his final order: “Don't give up the ship!”
- June 6, 1813 – War of 1812: Battle of Stoney Creek – A British force of 700 under John Vincent defeats an American force two times its size under William Winder and John Chandler.
- June 22, 1813 – War of 1812: After learning of American plans for a surprise attack on Beaver Dams in Ontario, Laura Secord sets out on a 30 kilometer journey on foot to warn Lieutenant James FitzGibbon.
- June 24, 1813 – Battle of Beaver Dams: a British and Indian combined force defeats the United States Army.
- July 5, 1813 – War of 1812: three weeks of British raids on Fort Schlosser, Black Rock and Plattsburgh, New York begin.
- August 10, 1813 – Instituto Nacional, is founded by the Chilean patriot José Miguel Carrera. It is Chile’s oldest and most prestigious school. Its motto is Labor Omnia Vincit, which means “Work conquers all things”.
- August 27, 1813 – French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte defeats a larger force of Austrians, Russians, and Prussians at the Battle of Dresden.
- August 30, 1813 – Battle of Kulm: French forces are defeated by an Austrian-Prussian-Russian alliance.
- August 31, 1813 – At the final stage of the Peninsular War, British-Portuguese troops capture the town of Donostia (now San Sebastián), resulting in a rampage and eventual destruction of the town. Elsewhere, Spanish troops repel a French attack in the Battle of San Marcial.
- September 10, 1813 – The United States defeats the British Fleet at the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.
- September 11, 1813 – War of 1812: British troops arrive in Mount Vernon and prepare to march to and invade Washington D.C.
- October 5, 1813 – Battle of Thames in Canada; Americans defeat British.
- October 16, 1813 – The Sixth Coalition attacks Napoleon Bonaparte in the Battle of Leipzig.
- November 11, 1813 – War of 1812: Battle of Crysler’s Farm – British and Canadian forces defeat a larger American force, causing the Americans to abandon their Saint Lawrence campaign.
- December 29, 1813 – British soldiers burn Buffalo, New York during the War of 1812.
