- January 10, 1922 – Arthur Griffith is elected President of the Irish Free State.
- January 28, 1922 – New Year’s Day in Chinese calendar. Start of the year of the Water Dog in Chinese astrology.
- February 27, 1922 – A challenge to the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, allowing women the right to vote, is rebuffed by the Supreme Court of the United States in Leser v. Garnett.
- March 10, 1922 – Mahatma Gandhi is arrested in India, tried for sedition, and sentenced to six years in prison, only to be released after nearly two years for an appendicitis operation.
- March 12, 1922 – Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan formed The Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic
- March 20, 1922 – The USS Langley is commissioned as the first United States Navy aircraft carrier.
- April 5, 1922 – The American Birth Control League, forerunner of Planned Parenthood, is incorporated.
- April 7, 1922 – Teapot Dome scandal: United States Secretary of the Interior leases Teapot Dome petroleum reserves in Wyoming.
- May 30, 1922 – In Washington, D.C. the Lincoln Memorial is dedicated.
- June 12, 1922 – At Windsor Castle, King George V receives the colours of the six Irish regiments that are to be disbanded – the Royal Irish Regiment, the Connaught Rangers, the South Irish Horse, the Prince of Wales’s Leinster Regiment, the Royal Munster Fusiliers and the Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
- June 16, 1922 – General election in the Irish Free State: the pro-Treaty Sinn Féin win a large majority.
- June 22, 1922 – Herrin massacre: 19 strikebreakers and 2 union miners are killed in Herrin, Illinois.
- June 29, 1922 – France grants 1 km² at Vimy Ridge “freely, and for all time, to the Government of Canada, the free use of the land exempt from all taxes”.
- July 24, 1922 – the draft of The British Mandate of Palestine was formally confirmed by the Council of the League of Nations; and which came into effect on 26 September 1923.
- August 30, 1922 – Battle of Dumlupinar: the final battle in the Greek-Turkish War (“Turkish War of Independence”).
- September 13, 1922 – The final act of the Greco-Turkish War, the Great Fire of Smyrna, commences.
- November 17, 1922 – Former Ottoman sultan Mehmed VI goes into exile in Italy.
- November 26, 1922 – Toll of the Sea debuts as the first general release film to use two-tone Technicolor (The Gulf Between is the first film to do so but it is not widely distributed).
- December 6, 1922 – One year to the day after the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty, the Irish Free State comes into existence.
- December 30, 1922 – The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is formed.
