  • January 18, 2000 – The Tagish Lake meteorite impacts the Earth.
  • February 5, 2000 – Russian forces massacre at least 60 civilians in the Novye Aldi suburb of Grozny, Chechnya.
  • March 1, 2000 – Hans Blix assumes the position of Executive Chairman of UNMOVIC.
  • March 17, 2000 – More than 800 members of the Ugandan cult Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God die in what is considered to be a mass murder and suicide orchestrated by leaders of the cult.
  • March 27, 2000 – A Phillips Petroleum plant explosion in Pasadena, Texas kills 1 and injures 71.
  • April 22, 2000 – The Big Number Change takes place in the United Kingdom.
  • May 24, 2000 – Israeli troops withdraw from southern Lebanon after 22 years of occupation.
  • May 25, 2000 – Liberation Day of Lebanon. Israel withdraws its army from most of the Lebanese territory after 22 years of its first invasion in 1978.
  • June 7, 2000 – The United Nations defines the Blue Line as the border between Israel and Lebanon.
  • June 13, 2000 – President Kim Dae Jung of South Korea meets Kim Jong-il, leader of North Korea, for the beginning of the first ever inter-Korea summit, in the northern capital of Pyongyang.

  • October 26, 2000 – Laurent Gbagbo takes over as president of Côte d'Ivoire following a popular uprising against President Robert Guéï.
  • October 31, 2000 – A chartered Antonov An-26 explodes after takeoff in Northern Angola killing 50.
  • December 13, 2000 – The “Texas 7” escape from the John Connally Unit near Kenedy, Texas and go on a robbery spree, during which police officer Aubrey Hawkins is shot and killed.
  • December 19, 2000 – The Leninist Guerrilla Units wing of the Communist Labour Party of Turkey/Leninist attack a Nationalist Movement Party office in Istanbul, killing one person and injuring three.
  • December 24, 2000 – The Texas 7 hold up a sports store in Irving, Texas. Police officer Aubrey Hawkins is murdered during the robbery.
  • December 30, 2000 – Rizal Day Bombings: A series of bombs explode in various places in Metro Manila, Philippines within a period of a few hours, killing 22 and injuring about a hundred.
